REA Arc Fault Detection System

Description

The REA Arc Fault Detection System is ABB’s fast and selective arc flash mitigation solution for air-insulated low- and medium-voltage switchgear, forming a natural component of modern switchgear panels and a safety investment for older panels to protect human lives and prevent or reduce material damage. The system detects intense arc flash light alone or in combination with simultaneous phase or neutral overcurrent. Upon detecting an arc fault, the REA system issues trip commands in less than 2.5 ms to all circuit breakers feeding the fault zone.
