Ultra-Fast Earthing Switch UFES

Description

The Ultra-Fast Earthing Switch (UFES) is an innovative arc quenching system by ABB, providing the highest level of safety for low- and medium-voltage systems against the hazardous impacts of internal arc faults. UFES is a safe and effective combination of a specific arc detection relay and an associated arc quenching device comprising primary switching elements (PSE). In case of an internal arc fault, the arc detection relay triggers the UFES PSE, initiating a three-phase earthing to immediately break the arc voltage. The extremely short switching time of the PSE, less than 1.5 ms, combined with rapid and reliable fault detection, ensures arc flash extinction in less than 4 ms after detection. Active arc fault protection by UFES maximizes personnel and equipment safety, significantly reduces arc incident energy, and minimizes risks assessed per NFPA 70E. Country of origin: Germany.
